Welcome to the
Uni Dragons Dragon Boating Team

about us

The Uni Dragons is a team made up of students from the Australian National University, University of Canberra and the Australian Catholic University. Its aim is to provide a fun team environment, a way to meet new people, fitness and healthy competition at regattas both in Canberra and interstate. This is only the second season the Uni Dragons have been competing so we are all working hard to grow as a team and become more competitive within the dragon boat scene. Dragon boating is a great sport to be part of and is easy to learn and become involved in.

a bit about Dragon Boating

Dragon boat racing is an aquatic sport in which a twelve metre long canoe-like boat, wide enough to sit twenty people (two abreast) along with a sweep to steer the boat and a drummer, is paddled over a course of either 250 or 500 metres in length. During races a dragon boat will feature the head and tail of a dragon, a mythological creature regarded by the Chinese as having dominion over the waters and exercising control over rainfall (www.cdba.com.au).

training

Training sessions run from 60 - 90 minutes every Wednesday and Sunday afternoon at 5.30pm. You can find us down at the Southern Cross Yacht Club, Mariner Place Yarralumla.

costs

In order to use the paddles and boats that belong to the Canberra Dragon Boat Association (CDBA), as well as enter into local regattas everyone will need to become a member for the season, which runs from Sept to Aug. The cost of this is $70. Uniforms for the Uni dragons are black shorts and Uni Dragons singlets. The singlets are ordered by us and will cost $30.
